1856 Provisionals Type-set and printed on surface-coloured paper at the Official Gazette, Georgetown
4c. black on blue
4c. black on blue "sugar paper" (paper coloured through), cut octagonally with small margins, mounted on a matching blue surrounding paper to improve appearance, initialled "E.D.W.", cancelled by Demerara double-arc d.s. for Aug. 15 1856, sharing with the previous lot the earliest recorded use. Traces of thinning and creasing well hidden by the re-backing, not detracting from the fine appearance of this World rarity, of which only about twelve examples are recorded in used and unused condition. Small (comet) handstamp on the reverse. S.G. 27, £225,000. Photo
