1856 Provisionals Type-set and printed on surface-coloured paper at the Official Gazette, GeorgetownThe Earliest Usage Recorded of A Great Classic Worldwide Rarity
4c. black on blue
4c. black on blue "sugar paper" (paper coloured through), cut octagonally with close to small margins, initialled "E.D.W.", cancelled by Demerara double-arc d.s. for Aug. 15 1856, earliest recorded use; traces of paper thinning which may be a natural characteristic. A very good example of this most remarkable stamp, of which only about a dozen examples are recorded in unused and used condition. A most desirable and true gem, as it originates from such a significant and prestigious issue, with its role as a worldwide rarity and also being the earliest known usage. R.P.S. (1953) and E. Diena (1986) Certificates. S.G. 27, £225,000. Photo
