The Unique Redirected Entire Letter
One Cent
1853 (11 June) entire letter from Scotland addressed to British Guiana bearing Great Britain 1847-54 embossed 1/- green cut to shape cancelled by "131" in bars of Edinburgh, sent via Liverpool (13.6), arriving in Demerara (9.7). On arrival it was forwarded to Esquibo by the addition of two horizontal pairs of the 1c. black on magenta (each pair featuring Type I-II), cancelled by Demerara double arc (13.7) c.d.s. A few expected faults including the letter with creasing, ageing and small parts missing, the adhesive with margins in places and one pair showing a vertical archival fold. An extraordinary and unique combination franking, of great visual impact for exhibition. Holcombe certificate (1992) stating "A fantastic and very rare cover, the "ultimate" forwarded cover.
