(x) Bechuanaland
The Warren Expedition
1884 (Nov.) "Commission and Instructions to Major-General Sir Charles Warren, K.C.M.G., as Special Commissioner to Bechuanaland; with a Memorandum by Sir C. Warren. Presented to both Houses of Parliament by Command of Her Majesty." This contains Warren's instructions for the Expedition and related undertakings in Bechuanaland. A couple of creases, otherwise good.

In 1885 Sir Charles Warren was ordered to lead an expedition to the Republics of Stellaland and Goshen to force annexation on them and bring the Boers under control. Three Mounted Rifle Regiments were raised for this Bechuanaland Field Force. Weekly English mail was carried from the field by a military postal service to the Expedition Headquarters in Barkly

Cecil Rhodes wanted to open the route for a railway line to the north and these two republics were causing a problem. The whole operation was achieved without a shot being fired and the two republics were incorporated under the title British Bechuanaland on 30th September 1885
