(x) NGC MS63 | Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage, Post-Treaty Period, Noble, 1369-1377, Group III, Calais, EDW | ARD x DI x GRA x REX x AnGL x Z x FRANC : DnS x hIB 'x Z x AQVIT '. saltire stops, King standing in ship, holding sword and shield, flag on stern-castle, ropes 3/1, ornaments 1-1-1-1, quatrefoils 5/4, rev. + IhC : AVTEM : TRAnSIENS : PER : MEDIVM : ILLORVM : IBAT x, double saltire stops, floriate cross, crowned leopards in angles, large E• at centre, 7.625g [117.68gns], 11h, i.m. cross pattée (cf. Schneider I, 115: North 1281; S.1521), struck from an overtly rusted obverse die with trace doubling to legends, otherwise an attractively even and full striking with a light and appealing cabinet tone with much underlying lustre, a pleasingly good very fine to extremely fine in parts, a splendid cabinet piece, in NGC Black 'Carrington' holder, rather generously graded MS63 (Cert. #8534369-005)
