William Browning served in the Great War with the Royal Army Medical Corps, disembarking for service in the Balkans on 15 September 1915. He was later Mentioned in Despatches of the Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force, appearing in the London Gazette on 3 June 1919. At some stage during the War, Browning was appointed Acting Lance Corporal; sold together with copied records and Gazette entry.
