1914-15 Star (S.7164 Pte. D. Jameson. A.&S.Highrs.); British War and Victory Medals (S-7164 Pte. D. Jameson. A.&S.H.), very fine (3)

Douglas Jameson/Jamieson was born in Edinburgh in 1897 and worked as a mechanic prior to attesting at age 19 with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders on 22 December 1914 at Glasgow. He disembarked at Boulogne as part of the Expeditionary Force on 26 July 1916 and joined the No. 19 Base Depot. In October 1916 Jameson took part in a Lewis Gun course, and that December he forfeited two weeks of pay after being tried for abseenting himself without leave while on active service. He spent much of the first four months of 1917 at a Red Cross Hospital suffering from a burn to his left foot, which was not sustained while carrying out his military duties.

That June after his discharge from Hospital, Jameson was on furlough and spent a few days at back home in Edinburgh. On 23 August 1917, Jameson transferred to the Royal Tank Corps (no. 301168) and was posted to their depot at Wareham. With the Tank Corps, he worked in the central shops as an electrician, for which he received an employment recommendation for his good work. Jameson was transferred to Class 'Z' Army Reserve after the war on 21 February 1919 and returned home to live with his family at 17 Spring Valley Gardens, Edinburgh; sold together with a wealth of copied documents and records.
