Harry Coll Izon was a salesman from Smethwick, Birmingham. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers in 1915 and was posted to 148 Army Troops Company, a bridge and building reconstruction troop. Izon entered the war in France in October 1915 and qualified as a skilled engine driver, taking part in various courses during the war to supplement his building skills which were much needed at the front lines. He also took part in the Army of Occupation post war reconstruction work in Germany.
Sold together with a scarce Birmingham and District Motor Cyclists WWI bronze tribute plaque named to Izon and mounted on its original wooden plinth. Also sold with a significant quantity of original documents which constitute an extraordinary time capsule of Izon's Great War service, including:

Original M.I.D. certificate dated 16 March 1919.

Appreciation of service certificate from Brigadier General A. G. Stevenson named in ink to Izon.
iii)
Izon's original filed message book for 1918.
iv)
Royal Engineers Bridging school certificate named to Izon.
v)
WW1 embarkation card named to Izon.
vi)
Certificate of employment during the war named to Izon.
vii)
III Corps Christmas 1918 card with message from Izon.
viii)
148 A.T. Company Royal Engineers Christmas card for 1918.
ix)
Handwritten personal messages and notes from Izon.
