Sidney Ramm was born on 2 June 1894 in Norwich, Norfolk and enlisted in the Royal Navy on 19 June 1913 to complete a twelve-year engagement period. His first posting was as a Stoker 2nd Class aboard the H.M.S. Pembroke II. Ramm was later serving as Stoker 1st Class on H.M.S. Blenheim from 15 May 1914, serving with her until 31 August 1916. He saw service during the Great War on board a number of ships, being promoted Acting Leading Stoker and shortly later Leading Stoker while posted aboard H.M.S. Hecla II between March 1918 and January 1919. His Great War trio was issued to him on the H.M.S. Tempest, with whom he was stationed from 7 February 1920 until 18 November 1921. Ramm's final posting was aboard H.M.S. Victory II, and he left the Navy on 18 June 1925 after the termination of his limited period of engagement; sold together with copied records.
