Six: Sergeant J. C. Langridge, 1st Battalion, Transvaal Scottish
1939-45 Star; Africa Star, clasp 8th Army; Italy Star; War and Africa Service Medals 1939-45, all named '32208 J. C. Langridge'; Efficiency Medal, G.VI.R., Union of South Africa (Sgt. J.C. Langridge T.S.), sold together with a mounted dress miniature group corresponding to the full-sized campaign medals but with the addition of a Defence Medal 1939-45, light contact marks, overall good very fine (6)
James Charles Langridge was born at Krugersdorp on 9 May 1916, the son of C. T. Langridge of 17 Kruger Street, Krugersdorp. He worked as a Shopkeepers Assistant prior to attesting on 20 May 1940 and volunteering from overseas service with the Transvaal Scottish. He was first posted to East Africa on 17 July 1940 with this formation, seeing at Addis, Combolcia, Dessie and finally the end of the campaign at the fortified mountain of Amba Algai.
Entering the war in North Africa on 21 June 1941 he was in Hospital at Aden on 1 October but discharged in November and posted to joined the 2nd Botha Regiment returning to the Transvaal Scottish on 21 January 1942. This unit saw action during the Relief of Tobruk, Battle of Gazala and 2nd Battle of El Alamein. Returning to Durban in 1943 he married there and later entered the war in Italy on 22 March 1943, being advanced Sergeant there on 1 September 1943. He was finally discharged on 30 October 1945; sold together with typed research.
