Army L.S. & G.C., V.R. (1818 N. McCleod 79th Regt.), some light contact marks and edge bruising, otherwise very fine
Neil McLeod was born at Portree, Inverness and attested into the 78th Foot on 29 July 1852 and was given the regimental number 3265. He was wounded during the siege of Lucknow on 25 September 1857 and transferred to the 28th Foot on 1 July 1859 and was further slightly wounded at Beyt Fort, East Indies on 6 October 1859. Transferring again this time to the 1/4th Foot on the 1 November 1864 he transferred for the last time to the 79th Foot on 25 May 1868. McCleod spent a total of 18 years and 241 serving in India.
He is entitled to an India General Service Medal 1854-95 with clasp Persia, an Indian Mutiny Medal 1857-58 with clasp Defence of Lucknow and Lucknow, and Abyssinia 1866-67 medal.
Discharged on 29 July 1872, he died at Edinburgh on 25 October 1873.
