Army L.S. & G.C., V.R. (Sergeant Daniel Henry Lord Bombay Unattached List), officially impressed, light contact marks very fine

Daniel Henry Lord was born at Bath, Somerset and attested into the 5th Lancers on 16 August 1864 at Canterbury, Kent. Seeing service in the East Indies from 18 December 1870 he transferred to the 3rd Hussars on 1 August 1874. Lord transferred again to the Unattached List on 30 March 1877 and completed his service in India on 5 December 1883 having reached the rank of Sergeant. Records however show that he was married on 3 October 1880 at Charlestown, Cornwall at a time when he was supposedly in India. He served at Home from 6 December 1883 - 22 January 1884 when he was discharged as he was found unfit for further service as a result of liver disease and chronic Bronchitis and Asthma.

He retired to St.Blazey, Cornwall and is shown in the 1891 Census as a Clerk and was later noted as an agent to the Blamey Estate. Lord became the landlord at the London Inn, Lanadwell Street, Padstow, Cornwall and died in 1926. The London Inn is still going strong.

Woodman Lord, his son, served with the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry during the Great War and was wounded in the right shoulder as a result of a G.S.W. on 8 December 1916, and is entitled to a British War and Victory Medal pair; sold together with detailed photocopied research.
