Thomas Lynch
was born at Tipperary, Ireland, and attested into the Royal Irish Regiment on 2 November 1895. He served in India from 28 October 1897 - 2 February 1902 and then served in South Africa from 3 February 1902 - 10 February 1905 before returning to India where he served from 11 February 1905 - 23 November 1905. He then returned to the United Kingdom where he remained until being posted to India once again from 22 January 1908 - 11 November 1913, he once again returned Home and was discharged at his own request on 19 January 1914 at Clonmel, Ireland, having reached the rank of Sergeant. With the outbreak of the Great War he re-enlisted on 23 March 1915 and served overseas in France from 17 December 1915 and was confirmed with the rank of Sergeant on the same day. He transferred to the Labour Corps on 29 September 1917 and was appointed Acting Company Sergeant Major on 17 December 1917 and was compulsory transferred to the Royal Fusiliers on 27 August 1918. He returned to the U.K. on 22 December 1919 and was discharged on the same day.
