Alfred Brown was born at Manchester and enlisted at Seaforth, Lancashire (Altrincham, Cheshire). He served overseas in France from 24 July 1915 and was killed in action on 16 August 1917 whilst serving with the 12th Battalion King's Liverpool Regiment. Brown is buried in the Bard Cottage Cemetery; sold together with a King's shoulder title and a copied newspaper cutting from the time as follows:

'Mr John Brown, 54, Manor-road, Altrincham, has been officially notified that his sixth son, Corporal Alfred Brown, the King's (Liverpool Regiment) was killed in action on August 16th. He was educated at St.John's Schools, Altrincham, and at one time was a member of the Borough-road Wesleyan Boys' Brigade and of the Mackennal Institute. He had played with the Altrincham Football Club, and took a great interest in the game. Corporal Brown enlisted in in September, 1914, and went to the front line the following July. He won the Military Medal in June, 1916, for gallantry in action. prior to joining the Army he was employed by the Altrincham Electric Supply Company. He was 25 years of age. Mr Brown, who is a well-known passenger guard on the M.S.J. and A. Railway, has four more sons with the Colours.'
