Hermanus Stephanus Pretorius was born on 19 November 1915 and was a Police constable when he enlisted in the Union Defence Force. He was to serve just over 2 months before being discharged on 30 August 1940 on medical grounds reverting back to the South African Police; sold together with copied research and a cased Bronze Royal Life Saving Medal engraved on the reverse, 'Awarded to H.S.Pretorius, Feb.1935'.
