Henry Asprey was born at Bilston, Staffordshire in 1884 and enlisted with the South Staffordshire Regiment on 23 March 1904. Posted to India the next year he arrived on 1 October 1904, being stationed at Allahabad in 1905 and departing in 1907. Arriving in South Africa on 29 November Asprey served at Pretoria until 20 January 1911 when he was ordered to return to Britain.
Entering the Great War in France on 27 August 1914 he returned to Britain in October and remained there for the next two years. Asprey returned to France on 14 February 1916, he served there for the bulk of the year before being seriously wounded in the left groin by shrapnel. He was too seriously wounded for continued service and was discharged on 30 October 1917; sold together with copied service papers.
