Pair: Sergeant J. Buckley, 3rd Dragoon Guards

E. Buckley. 3rd Drgn: Gds:), the top two clasps rivetted together but separate from the other three, light contact marks, very fine (2)

James Edward Buckley was born at Ahmednagar, India in 1865 and attested at Hulme Barracks, Manchester on 14 February 1884. Remaining in Britain until October he was posted first to India on 9 October and from there to Natal on 19 October 1892.

Returning to Britain in October 1895 he was promoted Sergeant while still there on 1 March 1900. Not long later Buckley was posted to South Africa for service in the Anglo-Boer War in January 1901. He saw a great deal of service in his short time in the country, being discharged on 31 October 1902 in South Africa where his wife's family lived. Settling in Durban his wife sadly died in 1925 and Buckley lived on as a Widower until his death on 4 August 1937 at the Government Hospital, Durban.
