John West was born at Kenton, Devon. He attested into the Devon Regiment on 26 June 1894. and served in India between 12 October 1895 - 20 September 1899 when he then went to South Africa on 21 September 1899. He returned Home on 12 October 1902 and remained in the U.K. until he was discharged on 25 June 1906.
His service number is 3952 but was engraved 3852 on the first medal.

(i) South Africa 1900 Christmas Tin with three lumps of original chocolate.
(ii) Devon Regiment Xmas 1901 Tin from the 3rd and 4th Battalions to the 1st and 2nd.
(iii) Card box for one of the medals.
