Charles Cecil Chiddy was born at Easton, Hampshire on 4 November 1840 and was a blacksmith prior to enlisting in the Royal Navy on 7 September 1870. He served mostly on Asia and was serving on Cygnet during the Egypt campaign. This torpedo boat had been present for the bombardment of Alexandria, before Chiddy joined her, and took part in the Defence of Suakin in 1885. Shore pensioned on 12 September 1890; sold together with copied research.
