Egypt Medal 1882-89 (1882 issue), dated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (G.W. Childs. Lg.Stkr. H.M.S. Helicon); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (G.W. Childs.Ldg: Stoker, H.M.S.Asia); Khedive's Star, 1882, unnamed as issued, brooch marks on reverse of first medal and on obverse of second medal, otherwise good very fine (3)

Approximately 85 medals with clasp Alexandria awarded to the despatch boat H.M.S. Helicon.

George William Childs was born at Wickham, Hampshire on 11 October 1852. He was advanced Leading Stoker with Minotaur on 17 April 1881 and saw service with Helicon the next year when she served as the despatch boat for the British fleet at Alexandria. Awarded his L.S. & G.C. with Asia on 19 August 1890 he was pensioned ashore on 30 June 1894; sold together with copied service papers.
