(x) Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, no clasp (Stf. Commdr J.R.W. Quinn, R.N. H.M.S. Serapis.), light contact marks, very fine

Approximately 220 no clasp medals awarded to H.M.S. Serapis.

James Robert William Quinn was born at Portsmouth on 3 November 1842 and enlisted in the Royal Navy on 25 September 1860 as a Boy first class. Appointed Acting Second Master to Phoebe in 1863 he removed to Princess Royal - the flag ship of Rear Admiral G.S.V. King in China - in 1866. Promoted Staff Commander to Crocodile in 1882 he commanded this troopship in 1882 later joining Serapis in Egypt in 1884. Leaving her in May that year he become Staff Commander to Nelson on the Australian station in October 1884. Joining Penelope, a guard ship on the Cape of Good Hope in 1891 he was placed on the retired list as Captain in 1897. Quinn died at Brentford on 12 August 1904; sold together with copied research.
