Auction: 24033 - The "KMC" Collection of Stamps and Covers of Mexico
Lot: 70

(x) Mexico
1856 Issue
Veracruz Trio of covers bearing single frankings of 1r. Yellow, 2r. Green and 4r. Red, all cancelled in Tlacotalpam and addressed to Veracruz, showing an excellent condition, with well-struck cancellations and stamps with margins all around. MEPSI certificate for the 1r. Scott 2-4.

Note: This town owes its philatelic celebrity to the legendary Tlacotalpam Provisional. Further research and judicial court records have shown that the so-called Provisional was merely a postal fraud perpetrated by the postmaster to account for money he embezzled from the post office. These covers with regular stamps prove that there was no stamp scarcity in the town.
