Veracruz 8r. Lilac, an exceptionally fresh strip of three with full to clear margins, on an attractive cover from Veracruz to Puebla dated January 4, 1859. A very appealing example of the very scarce 24 reales "Extraordinario" rate for expedited delivery, requiring double the regular postage. Sold for $5,250 at the 2000 Regency auction (lot #5532). 2024 MEPSI certificate. Scott 5; NF $1,500 as an off-cover strip.
