Mexico District 2r. Green, cut into at left, otherwise displaying good margins, on an attractive cover to Coburg, Germany, carried across the Atlantic by British packet with "GB/1F60c" Anglo-French accountancy marking and French Calais entry c.d.s. alongside, German straight-line h.s. indicating entry from France at base, along with various rate notations featuring 43 kreuzer for the total postage due, this including 34 kreuzer corresponding to the Great Britain and France postage due, and the 9 kreuzer portion according to the German-Austrian Postal Union. Backstamped in London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Coburg. Small paper loss at top left of the cover, not affecting the franking. Only five covers are recorded in the first issue addressed to present-day Germany. Sold for $5,250 at the 2000 Regency auction (lot #6071). Scott 3.
