Pacific Express co., Paid illustrated envelope with horse and rider (Haller FP1, type 3a), from Sacramento addressed to San Francisco bearing 3c. claret cut into to huge margins cancelled in pen, not tied, with adjacent Pacific Express Sacramento blue oval d.s. and boxed 'Paid' handstamp. Edgewear and light toning, still quite fresh and fine. A very scarce and attractive use, this should have been on a stamped envelope, so this appears to have been a technical violation of the law allowing express company to operate. Scott 11
