The James Song FRPSL Large Gold Medal Collection of The Chin Hills District
After the Japanese occupied Rangoon in March 1942, an emergency mail service was organised by Major A.G. McCall, District Commissioner, Lushai Hills at Aijal.
The postal runners made an eight day journey from Haka, Tiddim and Fort White via Falam to Aijal in Assam and thence to India.

1942 (15 Nov.) envelope flown on the "horseshoe" route to Durban and then by sea to England, marked "On Active Service", bearing 1a. purple-brown, 2a. carmine, 3a. dull violet and 8a. myrtle-green, all tied by "bridge" type c.d.s., showing Chin Hills "27" triangular censor cachet in violet, Karachi censor and, on reverse, Falam transit datestamp (16.11); the envelope with some minor peripheral wear.
