CAROLVS • D : G : MAG : BRIT : FR : ET • HI : REX • dumpy Equestrian Portrait of King trotting left, brandishing upright sword, sash flies behind, plume behind, no ground-line below, rev. : EXVRGAT : DEVS : DISSIPENTVR : INIMICI, RELIG : PROT : LEG : | ANG : LIBER : PAR : in two lines, three even plumes above, large 1643 below, 14.060g, 12h, i.m. plume (Morrieson D-3; Brooker 888-890 same obverse die; Bull 602/5; North 2413; S.2954), an exquisite example, stupendously lustrous with a rich overlying cabinet tone, the reverse further accentuated with fiery-orange hues, a really pleasingly good very fine, the portrait gloriously sharp, and with an important 19th Century hoard pedigree
