Charles I (1625-1649), Civil War Issues, Royalist Oxford, 'Declaration' Crown, 1643, New Hall Inn, struck from a 'Shrewsbury' obverse die, • CAROLVS : D : G : MAG : BRIT • FRAN • ET • HIBER • REX, King on horseback left, ground line below, plume behind, rev. :•: EXVRGAT : DEVS : DISSIPENTVR : INIMICI : RELIG : PROT : LEG ANG : LIBER : PAR in two lines, three even 'Oxford' plumes and • V • above, 1643 below, 29.744g, 2h, i.m. pellet / five pellets (Morrieson A-2; Brooker 870 same dies; North 2405; S.2946A), struck with an enlarged reverse die, otherwise beautifully cabinet toned, a most pleasing and wholesome very fine, rare in so presentable a state and with a fine pedigree dating back to its last auction appearance in 1896!
