Provenance

The Alfred Leonard Fuller of Bath Collection (1870-1941)

Acquired from Messrs Spink & Son, 5 April 1902 - £2.5.0

Spink Numismatic Circular, April 1902 (P.5298, no. 82475) - "1644. Mm. Plume. (Obv. only). Ground beneath the horse. Rev. Declaration 1644/OX in large numerals. From the Street and Hon. Marsham collections. RR. very fine" - £2.5.0

Hon. Robert Marsham-Townshend, Sotheby's, 19-24 and 26-27 November 1888, lot 561 (S.), 562 (S.) or 563 (S.) [Spink]

Mrs Street, collection purchased en bloc by Marsham, after 20 May 1874

"This is from the collection of Mrs. Street, which at her death was purchased intact for the Hon. R. Marsham, and it is, perhaps, one of the largest and most varied collections of the silver coins, only of this monarch ever brought together. To avoid repetition, all coins marked thus “(S.) ” are out of this cabinet."

There is frustratingly little to document the exploits of Mrs Street. Indeed no such name appears in the Annals of Peerage, although it is a sensible to assume that she gained by inheritance or by marriage such an elevated position in 19th Century society. William Webster (Senior) acted as her agent at the landmark dispersals of the cabinets of Edward Wigan (1872), John Brodribb Bergne (1873) and Hugh Howard (1874).
