Charles I (1625-1649), Civil War Issues, Royalist York, Halfcrown, 1643-1644, (m.m.) • CAROLVS • D : G • MAG : BRIT • FRAN • ET • HIB • REX • King on horseback riding left, sash flying behind, tail between legs, EBOR below rev. • CHRISTO • AVSPICE • REGNO • (m.m.) crowned oval and ornate lion-skin garnished shield, 12.996g, 12h, m.m. lion passant (Brooker 1087 same reverse die; Besly 2E; Bull 560; North 2315; S.2869), a slightly undulating flan the result of the rocker press production method, otherwise lightly rubbed and cabinet toned, with hints of attractive bluish hue to shields, near very fine
