REX • fifth crowned and armoured bust right, XII behind, rev. (m.m.) QVÆ • DEVS • CONIVNXIT • NEMO • SEPARET, square-topped shield, 6.071g, 2h, m.m. bell (Oddie & Thompson P32-P35/- [O19] same obverse die, reverse die unlisted; North 2101; S.2656), a hint of striking softness to extremities, otherwise a delightful and wholesome example of this notoriously difficult coinage, truly good very fine for type with accentuations of purplish-blue lustre to peripheries and fiery-orange to shield, rare thus and a fitting cabinet piece considered choice enough for the legendary 19th Century numismatist Hyman Montagu yet unseen to public commerce since September 1898!
