Elizabeth I (1558-1603), Sixth Issue, Halfgroats, Tower (4), 1 February 1590 - 31 January 1592, (m.m.) E .' D .' G .' ROSA .' SINE .' SPINA .' beaded inner circle only, crowned and draped bust 6E left, two pellets behind head, rev. (m.m.) CIVITAS LONDON, beaded inner circle only, square-topped shield over long cross fourchée, 0.916g, 11h, m.m. hand (BCW HA-1/HA-a1; North 2016; S.2559), struck softly on portrait, otherwise lustrous with an attractive bluish-grey tone on a full round flan, a bolder fine / very fine; another, 1 February 1592 - 8 May 1594, as before, 1.052g, 7h, m.m. tun (BCW TN-1/TN-a1; North 2016; S.2559), rubbed and lightly blue-grey tone, fine / very fine; another, 9 May 1594 - 13 February 1596, similar, 1.014g, 11h, m.m. woolpack (BCW WK-2/WK-a1; North 2016; S.2559), rubbed to centres, with a darker cabinet tone, scarcely fair to devices, a bolder fine to peripheries; lastly, 14 February 1596 - 7 February 1599, as before, 0.841g, 1h, m.m. key (BCW KY-2/KY-b; North 2016; S.2559), rust staining to reverse legend otherwise lustrous with attractive bluish toning, strictly fine / very fine, nevertheless a notoriously scarce pyx mark (4)
