                        The L'Abbaye Collection: Part Two | George I (1714-1727), 'SSC' Shilling, 1723, South Sea Company, GEORGIVS • D ' G • M • BR • FR • ET • HIB • REX • F • D •  second laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. 23 • BRVN ET • L • DVX S • R • I • A : TH • ET • EL • 17, crowned shields cruciform, seven strings to harp, six hearts to semée, SS-C in angles, edge obliquely milled, 6h (Pywell-Phillips - [cf. 275]; ESC 1178; Bull 1591 ~ albeit six strings not recorded; S.3648), a gorgeous example even for this more commonly encountered type, sumptuously cabinet toned with much underlying flare, some weakness for strike at date, otherwise a pleasingly good very fine, and with great eye appeal!
