The L'Abbaye Collection: Part Two | George I (1714-1727), 'French Arms at Date' Shilling, 1723, South Sea Company, GEORGIVS • D ' G • M • BR • FR • ET • HIB • REX • F • D • first laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. 23 • BRVN ET • L • DVX S • R • I • A TH • ET • EL • 17, crowned shields cruciform, seven strings to harp, six hearts to semée, SS-C in angles, edge obliquely milled, 6h (Pywell-Phillips -; ESC 1177 [R4]; Bull 1589 [R2]; S.3647), a magnificent example of this iconic Georgian Shilling rarity with the shields rotated counter-clockwise, light tone overlying fully lustrous original fields, extremely fine, and whilst not as scarce as once thought, still a great rarity in this superlative grade
