The L'Abbaye Collection: Part Two | George I (1714-1727), 'Roses and Plumes' Shilling, 1723, GEORGIVS • D ' G • M • BR • FR • ET • HIB • REX • F • D • first laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. 23 • BRVN ET • L • DVX S • R • I • A : TH • ET • EL • 17, crowned shields cruciform, six strings to harp, six hearts to semée, roses and plumes in angles, edge obliquely milled, 6h (Pywell-Phillips -; ESC 1175; Bull 1583; S.3645), broadly struck with richer cabinet tone overlying lustrous original surfaces, a pleasing and wholesome very fine, an overlooked scarcity on account of the ubiquity of surviving South Sea Coinage specie of this year, very rare thus
