Pair: Sergeant G. H. Green, 11th Hussars (Prince Albert's Own), a possible charger at Balaklava

Crimea 1854-56, 4 clasps, Alma, Inkermann, Balaklava, Sebastopol, clasps in order listed, some unofficial rivets (1475. G. H. Green. XIth P.A.O. Hussars), regimentally impressed naming; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (1495 Corpl G. H. Green XI PAO Hussars), regimentally impressed naming, edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine (2)

George Henry Green was born at Leicester in 1832 and enlisted for the 11th Hussars at London on 11 January 1850, a servant by trade, aged 18. He served in Turkey and the Crimea for 1 year 10 months, receiving the medal with four clasps and the Turkish medal. The muster roll for October 1854 records him as ‘mess waiter’, while those for the following two months record ‘in hospital’ and ‘sick at Scutari’ respectively. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, it is possible that he may have taken part in the Charge at Balaklava. The musters show him still at Scutari for the first three months of 1855. In February/March 1856 he is shown as batman to Colonel Yates Peel. He was promoted to Corporal in March 1859, to Sergeant in November 1860, and was discharged ‘by claim’ from Dublin on 11 June 1862.
