Military Documents and Ephemera of War Office interest, a Commission document made out to Herbert de Haga Haig, appointing him a Lieutenant in 'the Land Forces', dated 26 February 1874 and signed by the Duke of Cambridge; a fragment of letter signed by Lord Palmerston as Secretary at War, dated 17 May 1822; a fragment of a Commission document made out to a Mr. Sturt of the Grenadier Guards, dated 8 June 1862 and signed by the Duke of Cambridge and Earl de Grey & Ripon; a letter from Viscount Cardwell as Secretary of State for War, addressed to the Lord Justice and dated 9 October 1873, second and third incomplete, otherwise sound and readable condition (4)

Herbert de Haga Haig was an officer in the Royal Engineers and served for some 34 years, being especially known for volunteering for the 1885 Rebellion in Canada and was Mentioned in Despatches for the Battle of Fish Creek. A well-regarded artist, the Illustrated London News published many of his illustrations and artwork relating to that campaign. His campaign Medal, sword, and other artefacts are known to be extant.
