Defence and War Medals 1939-45, with M.I.D. oakleaf, detached, sold together with their named box of issue and slip of issue, good very fine (2)

Charles Albert Hill attended Kilburn Grammer School and was Head Boy between 1918-1919 before joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was to see service during the Second World War, being appointed Pilot Officer on 28 November 1939. Almost forced to retire due to ill health the next year Hill instead joined the Accounts Branch as Flying Officer on 22 January 1941.

Further advanced Flight Lieutenant in 1942, he was 'mentioned' for his role in the war with the rank of Squadron Leader in 1946. Hill seems to have remained serving in that rank until his retirement in 1954 as 'Flight Lieutenant retaining the rank of Squadron Leader'; sold together with the original M.I.D. certificate and envelope as well as a Kilburn Grammer School head boys badge named and dated with hallmarks for Birmingham and a sports medal named to the recipient.
