A poignant Family collection awarded to brothers

Pair: Private A. J. Tayleure, 5th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment who was killed in action on 20 May 1915

Arthur John Tayleure was born at Pocklington, Yorkshire and enlisted with the 1st/5th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment at Frodingham, Lincolnshire. Entering the war on 1 March 1915 he did not serve there long however as the Battalion was stationed near Hill 60 in the Ypres Sector. The Germans wanted to take the important feature and detonated a series of mines beneath British lines protecting it. One of these blew on 20 May 1915, killing 15 men including Tayleure. He is buried at Packhorse Farm Shrine Cemetery, Belgium.

William Tayleure served with the 21st Battalion, Rifle Brigade between 14 January 1916-2 September 1917 before transferring to the Hampshire Regiment.
