Pair: 2nd Lieutenant W. R. Potter, Machine Gun Corps, late Royal Fusiliers, who died of wounds in April 1917

William Rochester Potter was born in 1892 the son of Thomas and Laura Potter of 32 Kendall Avenue, Purely, Surry. Enlisting with the 18th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers he entered the war in France on 14 November 1915 but was soon accepted for an Officer Training Course. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with the 10th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment on 5 August 1916 he was later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps.

Posted to the 149th Company, Machine Gun Corps, part of the 149th (Northumberland) Brigade he was serving with them during the opening phases of the Battle of Arras 1917. Potter was mortally wounded, likely during the Battle of the Scarpe, and died of wounds on 24 April 1917. He is buried at Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty; sold together with copied research.
