Army L.S. & G.C., V.R. (828. W. Serjt J. Marchant, R. Est: R.A.), good very fine

John Marchant was born at Chelmsford, Essex and attested into the Royal Artillery on 13 October 1857. He is transferred to the Depot Royal Horse Artillery on 1 September 1869, then to B Battery R.H.A. on 1 April 1870 and then to the Riding Establishment on 1 April 1871. He was discharged on 19 December 1878 at Woolwich and was to live at The Node, Welwyn, Hertfordshire. He died in 1899, aged 56.
