Thomas Holt was born 29 January 1866, a native of Accrington, Lancashire. He was educated at The University of Aberdeen and Owens College. Following his graduation in medicine he was employed in the Public Health Department in Burnley as a medical officer. Commissioned into the Territorial Army he is listed as Surgeon Major 2nd Volunteer Battalion, East Lancashire in 1908 with seniority from 7 April 1906.
During the First World War he served in the 1/4th East Lancashire Regiment seeing action first in Gallipoli and subsequently in France.
In 1918 he married Nellie Grimshaw, the daughter of James Grimshaw of J Grimshaw Ltd, a successful brewer of Church Street, Burnley with a large number of pubs in the Burnley area which he sold to Massey's Burnley Brewery Ltd in 1928.
Holt died in Nelson in January 1943; sold together with copied medal rolls, M.I.C., medical discharge papers and London Gazette extracts.
