1914-15 Star (3730 Pte W. J. Morris. 16 Bn. A.I.F.); British War and Victory Medals (3730 Pte. W. J. Morris 16 Bn. A.I.F.), pitting, very fine (3)

William Joseph Morris was born at Adelaide, South Australia and worked as a fitter prior to enlisting with the 16th Battalion on 1 September 1915. Entering the war in France he was taken onto the strength of the 48th Battalion and seriously wounded on 31 August 1916, being taken to the 3rd Casualty Clearing Station with a gunshot wound to the right arm. This proved more serious that it initially appeared and Morris was later transferred to No. 2 Australian General Hospital on 7 September, unfortunately they were unable to save his arm which was amputated. As a result of this he was invalided to England and later transferred to a Depot role. Returning to Australia on 21 July 1917 he was discharged on 18 March 1918.
