Paul Motherwell was born at Barony, Lanarkshire in 1898, the son of Daniel Macniven Motherwell and Catherine Kennedy Motherwell, of 27 Monteith Row, Glasgow. Enlisting at Aberdeen and entered the war on 26 January 1915 with the 1st Battalion. He was killed in action with this unit during an attempt to retake The Bluff feature by 3rd Division on 2 March 1916. This Battalion lost 245 killed, wounded and missing although they did succeed in retaking the position, Motherwell is commemorated upon the Menin Gate Memorial; sold together with a Commonwealth War Graves certificate.
Arthur Crew served first with the Highland Light Infantry before transferring to the Machine Gun Corps. He was discharged to the Reserve on 31 January 1919.
William Swingler enlisted at Manchester and served with the 7th Battalion, Seaforth Highlander, being given the new service number of S/40338 sometime before 1918. He was killed in action on 11 April 1918, he is commemorated upon the Tyne Cot Memorial; sold together with a copied Commonwealth War Graves Certificate.
