Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., (2151 John Carbine 81st Foot), small lettering reverse, minor edge bruising, very fine

John Carbine was born at Yeovil, Somerset in 1829 and enlisted with the 81st Regiment of Foot at Beaminster, Somerset on 25 April 1846. He served in India for over 12 years with this unit, being present with them during the Indian Mutiny (Medal no clasp). This unit was crucial to preventing an outbreak of mutiny in the Punjab where they disarmed the sepoys at the Mian Mir parade ground. Carbine continued to serve until 17 August 1867 when he was discharged at Weldon, listing his intended place of residence as Birmingham; sold together with typed notes and a medal roll for the 81st Foot during the Indian Mutiny.
