(x) Royal Naval Reserve L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R. (8048 C. A. Macarthur. Smn. R.N.R.), slight edge bruise, very fine

Angus McArthur was born at Barvas, Stornoway, Ross-shire on 13 June 1910 and worked as a fisherman before joining the Royal Naval Reserve. Enlisting as a Seaman on 21 January 1929 with the service number X14748 A, he took part in a many voyages over the years including to Australia, New Zealand, South America, India and the Mediterranean. His pre-war service included time on several Lightvessels and seaborne lighthouses, run by Trinity House.

Called out for service in the Second World War by proclamation on 8 December 1939, he was initially posted to the Royal Naval Patrol service, Pembroke X. He served ashore for the duration of the war, remaining first in the Lowestoft area before moving to Europa, the ‘Sparrow’s Nest’, another base for the Royal Naval Patrol Service. Later joining the company of H.M.S. Lynx at Dover before travelling the length of the country to Proserpine and finally Admire Flora. Perhaps McArthur’s most exciting posting was the Arctic Convoy Concentration point H.M.S. Helicon where he was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Advanced Chief Petty Officer on 13 July 1945 he was released not long after on 7 December; sold together with copied service papers.
