Alfred Norman Davis was born at Greenwich, London on 27 September 1901, joining the Royal Navy as a Cadet with the training ship Warspite before being posted to Impregnable as Boy Class II on 1 September 1917. His first posting afloat was with the Battleship Barhamon 2 August 1918; Davis was promoted Able Seaman on 8 June 1921.

Discharged by purchase on 15 October 1925 he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve the next day. Re-joining the Royal Navy with his former rank on 25 May 1936 with the H-class destroyer Hotspur, he spent much of his time with her as part of the arms blockade around Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Again joining the Royal Fleet Reserve on 28 September 1938, he saw war service from Pembroke I before being transferred to President III.

Posted to Simonstown, South Africa at Afrikander I before joining the flower-class Corvette Rockhouse on 26 October 1941, Davis also saw service with a D.A.M.S. - Defensively Armed Merchant Ship - during the war. He was discharged on 19 October 1945 and died on 30 December 1978 at Hull, Humberside; sold together with copied research including service papers and medal rolls.
