(x) Royal Naval Reserve L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R. (6001. E. S. Gibson. Ch/Engn. R.N.R.), good very fine
Robert Gibson was born at Liverpool on 4 October 1904, entering the Royal Naval Reserve on 13 July 1938 with the service number ESX6001. Called out on 27 May 1940 as an engineer he was posted to a number of small warships throughout the war starting with Bacchante, thence to the transport H.M.T. Arab. This vessel had recently served in the Namsos campaign in Norway and here commander, Lieutenant Richard Been Stannard had won the Victoria Cross. He was still commanding this vessel when Gibson was posted to her, arriving on 3 June 1940 and serving there until 17 March 1941. He was discharged from the Royal Naval Reserve on 1952 and died at North Cleveland, England in 1980; sold together with copied service papers.
