Joseph Gofrey Murray was born on 3 May 1881 at Belfast and joined the Royal Navy on 3 May 1899. During the Great War he served aboard Patrol from 31 July-18 October 1914 with three days with Pembroke then served on Hebe from 23 October 1914-31 January 1919. He received his L.S. & G.C. Medal on 18 May 1914.
