Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (229164 James Clements, P.O. H.M.S. Vivid), very fine

M.I.D. London Gazette 21 June 1918. These awards covered the period 1 January-31 December 1917, presumably this award for the Halifax Explosion.

James Clements was born at Liverpool on 1 October 1887. He joined the Royal Navy on 1 October 1905 and served on Pactolus at the start of the Great War, serving aboard Attentive from 19 April 1916-30 September 1917 (1914-15 Star Trio). He was given a King's Commendation on 6 December 1917 as a result of Attempting to save life and alleviate suffering on the occasion of the famous Halifax Explosion on 6 December 1917.

At the outbreak of the Second World War he was at Drake but transferred Royal Arthur on 25 September 1939. He was medically released on 22 September 1941.
